Thieves commit first bitcoin ATM robbery

Nov. 5, 2015

Two thieves in Atlanta recently stole a bitcoin ATM in what is believed to be the first bitcoin ATM robbery, according to a report by Silicon Angle.

The two robbers entered the Village Smoke Shop on Juniper Street late on Nov. 3. One of them unplugged the machine and picked it up. One of the robbers was armed and fired a shot at the floor when employees confronted them, but no one was injured according to the report.

The ATM had around $2,000 to $3,000 in it when the robbers took it, and the machine itself is worth around $7,000.

Store employee Amanda McCollum said that the shop will likely hire a nighttime security guard and increase the number of security cameras. Currently, the thieves are at large.
