Russian banks consider digital currency options

June 12, 2017

The Central Bank of the Russian Federation will adopt one of several digital currency platforms, the bank's deputy governor Olga Skorobogatova recently announced.

"Regulators of all countries agree that it's essential to develop a national digital currency, that it is the future," Skorobogatova said in a press release. "Each country will decide on specific time frames for itself. Based on the pilot projects which we are conducting we will understand which system we could use in our case for our national currency."

German Gref, CEO of Sberbank, Russia's largest bank, also has spoken about the need to legalize, use and regulate digital currencies, the release said.
