New Jersey increases number of bitcoin ATMs

North Bergen, New Jersey, now has its first cryptocurrency ATM. The machine allows users to exchange U.S. currency for bitcoin, Litecoin and Ethereum.

The machine at the Delta Food Mart convenience store is operated by Belco BTM, according to an article by Hudson Reporter. Belco also has installed machines in Jersey City, West New York, Bayonne and Union City and operates a total of eight bitcoin ATMs in the state.

To buy cryptocurrency at the machine, the user must download a cryptocurrency wallet app. At the machine, the user enters his or her mobile number to receive an SMS code. The user enters this code on the machine, followed by the crypto wallet address. The user specifies the amount of fiat currency to exchange and the machine shows what this sum is worth in cryptocurrency.

Helen's Pizza in Jersey City began accepting bitcoin payments in 2014. AdRite Solutions, a digital marketing firm in West New York and Secaucus, has also begun to accept the virtual currency.
